Nicole McLaughlin is an artist and designer whose work highlights the utilization and second lives of clothing, objects, and materials at large. Nicole is a leading figure in the world of up cycling. Her creations offer an optimistic and playful point of view that often push the original function of the chosen materials. Secondhand should be fun, imagination is free - we admire Nicole and her teacher mentality, always willing to lend others her time and respect.
In the summer of 2020, Whim sent Nicole some of used materials, shoes, and garments with the open ended prompt of creating something new. The result was a fabulous tote bag made out of old Nike sneaker uppers. We were able to raffle off the item to benefit our fundraiser in collaboration with First Tee Chicago.
